This page explains what Find Similar Products does with your searches, the images you search with, what stays in your browser, and what is shared with the catalog service and merchants.

What stays in your browser

Saved products, products selected for comparison, recently viewed products, recent searches, and your light or dark theme choice are kept in your browser's local storage. They are not sent to us as a profile and there are no user accounts. Clearing site data in your browser removes them.

Your country and currency preference is kept in a first-party cookie for up to one year so results stay relevant to where you shop. You can change it with the region selector or clear it in your browser.

The catalog service and merchants

Product results come from Shopify's catalog service. With each catalog request we forward your IP address, your browser's user agent, and your preferred language, which the service uses to localize results and to protect itself against abuse. Shopify handles that information under its own privacy policy.

Product images load directly from merchants' content delivery networks, so those networks receive the request your browser makes for each image. When you continue to a merchant, that merchant processes your visit and any purchase under its own privacy policy.

Technical and usage information

We process limited request and error information to run and secure the service, including short-lived, in-memory request counts per IP address to prevent abuse.

Usage analytics record only a fixed list of event types with coarse details such as search type, country, currency, result position, and the kind of page viewed. They do not include search text, image data, page addresses, or product identifiers. Search text and pasted links may appear in a private operational notification used to monitor service health.

On the website, events are grouped by an anonymous visitor identifier that uses no cookie. It is a one-way hash of your IP address and browser details combined with a random value that is replaced every day and never stored, so it cannot be used to recognize you on a later day or to recover your IP address.

Usage events from the website and extension are sent from our server to PostHog, which processes them on our behalf. Your browser does not connect to PostHog, and your IP address is not passed to it.

When enabled, the website also uses Google Analytics 4 to measure page views and general traffic. Your browser loads Google's tag and sends Google the page path (never the search text or query string), your IP address, browser and device details, and approximate location. Google Analytics sets first-party cookies (such as _ga) to tell visits apart, and these can last up to two years. We turn off Google signals and advertising personalization and ask Google to anonymize IP addresses. Google processes this data under its own privacy policy. The extension does not use Google Analytics.

To opt out, block analytics cookies or scripts in your browser, use your browser's Do Not Track or tracking-protection settings, or install Google's Analytics opt-out browser add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.

The Chrome extension

The extension reads a page only when you click its toolbar button or its right-click menu item. When you search, it sends the product image address, the product name, price, and brand it detected, and the address of that page to our search service so matches can be found.

The extension creates a random installation identifier and keeps it in the extension's own storage. It is not linked to your name, account, or browsing history. The extension uses it to report anonymous usage events, such as that a search was started, how many results came back, whether a result was opened, and what kind of error occurred. These events never contain page addresses, search text, or product names.

If you remove the extension, Chrome opens a page where you can optionally tell us why. Removing the extension deletes the installation identifier from your browser.

Retention and choices

Images are not retained by this application after the search request. Operational records are kept only as long as needed for service, security, and reliability.

The service does not offer user accounts. If that changes, this notice will be updated with the applicable access, export, and deletion controls.
